These brackets are made of thick aluminum (or similar alloy) metal. They are indeed light (they don’t weigh much at all), but the point that needs to be sturdy (where the rope/carabiner attaches at the key hole) is nice and wide and the material is thick. As these are designed to be permanently installed along your roof’s ridge line, they are made of an alloy that won’t rust and cause rust streaking on your roof singles (the steel ones will eventually rust when exposed to the elements, and thus are usually a temporary solution that should be uninstalled when you’re done working on the roof). I ordered these to install them once and have a permanent solution for fall safety on my roof. They have a very nice matte black powder coating and each one comes individually wrapped in plastic to prevent them scratching during shipping. These should be installed into the roof rafters using special rubato roof nails or screws that can handle your load in case of a fall. I’ll be installing these in pairs, facing opposite directions from the ridge line; you’ll need to carefully temporarily remove shingles at the connection point, ensuring you mail/screw into a rafter below (when in doubt, crawl into your attic and take some photos and measurements of the spans between your rafters). If you’re going to fall, you want to have your weight supported at the small part of the keyhole, and away from the attachment holes above. That’s why you install one on each side/pitch of the roof, so your weight never pulls against the anchor attachment nail/screw holes, which would act like a mechanical lever and come loose. When installed and used properly, these roof anchors should prove to be plenty strong on their own, but just to be more safe, it’s always a good idea to attach your safety rope/harness to more than one anchor while working (attached to multiple properly installed anchors should provide extra strength in case of a fall). When in doubt, consult the multitude of instructions and videos found online for installing these types of roof anchors properly, or have a roofer do it for you. I’ll leave mine in place so I can safely work on the roof in the future.
