This traditional Turning or Bow Saw by Thomas Flinn of the UK, is designed for cutting curves. It features two vertical wooden arms with a bar or beam mortised into their centers, forming an "H" shape. The saw blade is attached across the bottom of the H, with a tensioning system across the top. The central beam acts as a fulcrum around which the blade is tensioned. Since the blade is kept in tension, it can be much thinner than a typical hand saw blade, which needs to be thicker to prevent buckling. Blade tension is generated by several loops of string. This saw can be set up to cut on either the push or pull stroke.
